The HOT days of summer have arrived but the air is real cool in FABRIC ART SHOP !   ruthie, Lee & Jeanette have worked extremely hard to make our part of heaven even more  wonderful.  They have brought a new look to many of our floor areas, and this is an ongoing project to make it easier to negotiate through the huge volume of sewing, needlework, quilting and art products that we offer.  We still want to encourage you to make suggestions so we can offer you the best in products, education and service. You will find some great classes that offer even more versatility.  Our AccuQuilt system is in action.  We are putting together kits or you can choose to have some of your fabrics cut in a wide variety of patterns.  Ask us about it.  In addition, because of suggestions from our customers, we have opened Mondays—every Monday to your hand stitching projects.  It starts at 10 and goes til ??.  It is called the HAND STITCHERS RESCUE & THERAPY CLUB.   Ask us what that means?!!!???    

 

On Friday we started a new quarterly Class & Product Preview session for the 3^rd quarter.  We hope that you will enjoy all the Class & Product Previews in the next quarters.   We want to hear what you will want to learn in subsequent quarters.  We also get requests for classes we have had in the past or current classes that don’t match your schedules.  Any of us would be happy to do another class for you if 3 or more persons will register.  So speak up!  Also, mark October 1^st , 6-7 pm for the next quarterly Class & Product Preview.  And don’t miss the Adult Pajama Party in August.

 

Kids Sewing 4 Kids (ages 7-16) sessions will continue every quarter.  In addition we will have Oil Painting for Kids and Teens, Youth Camp, and Beginning Sewing classes for both children and adults.  We have received many fabric donations for Cuddly for Comfort;  so come on in to sew or take a kit home.  Many hurricanes have been predicted, so we need to get busy.  Fabric and threads are provided and you can sew on our great JANOME machines and quilt on our Pennywinkle Sunshine machines.  It will give you lots of quilting and free motion quilting practice. 

 

Our first LUCKY 13 SALE was a great success and many of you shared your enthusiasm for this unique sale.  Little birdies have whispered in my ear that you want to know what the category will be for the next LUCKY 13 SALE for Tuesday, July 13.  Well, get the 13^th of each month marked on your calendar and join us when the BATIKS are the featured sale item for July.   

 

CHRISTMAS IN JULY begins on the first of July.  During this month, we will take 25% off all the Christmas fabrics.  They are drop dead gorgeous!  We will have classes featuring Christmas projects.  And, Nancy Fiedler, from JANOME, will be back to be our inspirational teacher for JANOME WEEKEND on July 29^th – 31^st.  Our cocktail party will be on Friday night, July 30, featuring trunk shows by Nancy and former JANOME Educator and now HoopSisters educator, Marilyn Gatz.  They will also be signing their newest book.  You won’t want to miss getting an autographed copy.  Our own Bev Hilton, now known as Crafty Bev, has a new line of tools and she will be demonstrating her Fussy Cut ruler.  Remember, everyone is invited.  As usual, owners of JANOME machines purchased at FABRIC ART SHOP get their classes free and only pay for kits.  There is a class & kit fee for other owners or wanna be owners.  This is a great time become part of our JANOME family.

Oil Painting Club.   How long has it been since you’ve dipped your brush?  Savored the smell of mineral spirits?  Well----bring your half done/ not finished or paintings that need tweaking or ideas for a new painting and let Sandy help you.   It’s a class for beginner to intermediate painters.  Learn composition, perspective and "tricks" for making frameable oil paintings.  Oil Paint Kits, brushes, palette knives & canvas available at FABRIC ART SHOP.   For additional information & to register for class dates, call  (386) 362-6850 to join. ($20.00 per session)  Monday evenings 6-9 PM.

Watercolor Painting with Wally Reichert— ($35.00 per session + supplies, Intro $15.00 + supplies) Wally will take you from beginner to expert in water color composition.  Adults and children learn very easily under his tutelage.   Water color paper and painting tools available at FABRIC ART SHOP.  For additional information & to register, call Wally at 386-758-7853.   Saturdays 1:30-4:30 pm, July 10, August 21 & September 25.

 

X-Block- Night Weave --- Lee Starr will teach the final  X block series pattern with its new techniques.   Once again, this technique brings about a 30” X 42” quilt with great visual impact because the fabric does the work.  You will be learning how to work with blocks that have been cut on the bias.   ($20.00 + Pattern cost $8.95 + X-block ruler in  6 ½” or 7 ½” size + supplies) Thursday, August 12, , 10am-6pm

Francie Mingo---Francie wades in the cool lagoon with a palm tree and a lovely bunch of coconuts on the little isle.  This is a re-issue of ruthie’s whimsical pattern.  ($15.00 + pattern + supplies)  Friday, September 10, 10am-3pm

 

Appliqué Block—We still have 1 space left in the current project or Barbie will get you started on one or you can bring your own.  Construct appliqué blocks or project each session.   Your project can be from different scraps and fat quarters—or you may choose to use the same fabric grouping for each session and put the blocks into sampler quilt. Barbie will teach you a variety of appliqué techniques and the group provides lots of experience & information. ($5.00 per session) Tuesday mornings, 10-12am,   July 6, 27, August 17, 31, September 14, 28

 

Hand Quilting Techniques  -- Lee will get you started on the art of hand quilting.  Once you learn the basics, be sure to join her hand quilting group some upcoming Tuesday afternoons.  ($25.00 + supplies)  Schedule your appointment with Lee.

 

Hand Quilting Group Fun -- Lee will lead you in the traditional art of hand quilting after the Appliqué Block class.  Tuesday afternoons, July 6, 27, August 17, 31, September 14, 28  (free) 12:30 -2pm

 

Big Shirt --- Jeanette will show you how to create your very personal Big Shirt.  Use the Big Shirt pattern booklet or Kerry’s Big Shirt pattern.  You will learn how to make adjustments to fit your body and how to easily make button holes and sew on buttons.  ($15.00 + booklet/pattern + supplies)  Sunday, September 19, 1-5pm

Kids Sewing 4 Kids – Learn to sew and make quilt tops for other children who need them.  (free—just bring your machines if you have them)  Saturday, September 18, 2-5pm

ADULT PAJAMA PARTY---Pajama Pants-or Scrubs Pants or Boxer Pants  --Wear your jammies and then change into your new pants!-Jeanette will take you through the construction of these versatile pants.  This class is good for beginners or anyone wanting to make comfortable pants. This quarter the pants, next quarter you will use the same booklet to make the tote and bracelet.  ($15 + $15 pattern booklet + supplies)  Friday, August 27, 5-8 pm

Log Cabin Medley --- the log cabin block is so versatile and even more so when done in the round.  Barbie will even make necessary adaptations to the book pattern to make them easier and more exciting.   Those who take the class will get to vote on next quarter’s offering.  So join in the Log Cabin Medley each quarter.  ($25.00 + supplies + book which will be used for this and subsequent quilts)  Friday, September 17, 10-4pm

Beginning Sewing—Jeanette teaches this new and ongoing monthly course.  Are you a beginner or do you just want to brush up on skills learned long ago?  You will pick what you want to make but it must be an EASY or QUICK pattern.  If in doubt, check with Jeanette.  You will learn guide sheet reading, placing and cutting pattern pieces, sewing terms, techniques and gadgets plus much, much more.  Pick a pattern and join the fun  ($18.00 + your pattern + supplies)  Saturdays, July 17, August 14, September 11,  10am - 6pm

Angelina Between the Sheets--- Learn lots of techniques & tricks-working with irons, stamps, candles, etc. to make your creations more exciting.  Barbie will inspire you to think of even more ways to use Angelina, Textiva, Crystalina, Tinzel and more.  ($20.00 + $26.00 book + supplies)  Saturday, August 28, 2-5pm

Christmas Quilt—Get this free pattern and with a lesson from Lee, you will love creating this bright and cheerful 54” X 72” lap quilt with large and easy to piece blocks.  ($20.00 + supplies)  Thursdays -- Part 1 July 8^th & part 2 July 22, 10am-3pm

Flashy Scarf---Take a bunch of fibers and silk flowers to make a stunning thread lace scarf. This has been one of Barbie’s more popular classes. ($15.00 + supplies) Friday August 13, 2-5pm

Sassy the Manatee--- Make this delightful wall hanging of a playful manatee munching on her lunch.  This is a re-issue of ruthie’s well loved pattern.  ($15.00 + pattern + supplies)       Saturday, July 24 10am-3pm 

Ombre’ Sunshine and Shadow --- Ombre’ fabrics have graded color bands.  This 50” X 64”quilt has great visual impact and has a super-sized block (14”).  This is the first of 3 quilts that will be offered from the Sewing With Nancy Series.  Lee will teach you to properly cut fabrics lengthwise and how to easily square up large blocks.   ($20.00 + book & supplies)  Thursday, September 16, 10am-6pm

 

Grand Opening—is a 36” X 49” quilt from new line of patterns for FAS:  Maple Island Quilts.  The sample features fabrics from Rilely Blake’s Summer Song line.  The 6 ½” squares lends itself to a larger scale print.  Lee will help you to maintain true ¼” and how to avoid curving strips.    ($20.00 + pattern + supplies)     Thursday, September 30, 10am-4pm

Monoki—Lee will lead you in a fabric folding technique that results in a kimono & flowers on a small (18 ½” square) and cute wall hanging.  Rather than oriental fabrics, we will use McKenna Ryan’s Willow fabrics.    ($15.00 + $8.00 pattern & supplies)  Sunday, August 22, 1-5pm

KIDS CAMP—(Ages 7-16)  Ms. Jeanette & Ms. Sandy will guide you in making a fabric photo cube with origami techniques, pajama pants with your fabric choices, apron & oil painting.   We will meet August 2-6 from 9am –noon.  It will be SO much FUN!  (Snacks & all supplies provided.  Bring sewing machines and painting supplies if you have them.  If not, we will make sure you have them.)  $125.00 for the week.

HAND STITCHERS RESCUE & THERAPY CLUB---.every Monday for your hand stitching projects.  It starts at 10 and goes til ??. 

Tatting & Crazy Quilt Club-- You will need muslin for the block foundations, and lots of fun fabrics, threads, beads, lace and more.  Then we’ll put it out for all to share.  Bring your tatting supplies or purchase them here.  If you don’t know how to tat, we’ll show you how.   We will meet once a month to feed our addiction to these wonderful quilt and stitchery techniques. (Free)  Sunday, 1-5PM, July 25, August 15, September 12.

Cuddly For Comfort – Kids and Adults---Come sew, sandwich, quilt, bind for disaster victims and community service as we need to make lots of quilts, tote bags, wheelchair and walker bags, etc.  Lots of donated fabrics have come in from individuals and manufacturers.  We have many more needs than we can accommodate.  Please come on out and volunteer!  Piecing, quilting & binding and in-kind donations are so much appreciated.  Donations of money for shipping are always welcome.  

 

Guild Day sale for Lady of the Lake members:   On your meeting day, get 20% off of fabrics and notions.

 

Policy for Classes:

Class supply lists normally will be  at the store.  Classes may be cancelled with advance notice in the case of emergencies.  Under these circumstances, class fees will be credited to another class.  If you do not notify us of cancellation at least 4 days prior to class, no refunds or credits will be given.  Signup lists will be available immediately.  One-on-one classes at your request are available by appointment at $25.00 per hour.  These classes must also be paid at time of registration.  Group meetings, such as Tatting and Crazy Quilt, Socials, Appliqué Block, Hand Quilting Group, do not require advance payment or registrations, though we do appreciate knowing in advance if you will attend. You will get 10% off your class supplies.
